More changes for changes sake. There was nothing wrong with the old format. If they are paying people to make these changes, they should fire them and only keep enough personnel to keep things running smoothly.

In addition to the BS changes, my GIF avatar is no longer animated.

Also, they didn't even give me three minutes to edit my post before they had to scream it out that I can't spell correctly.

This is going to be my standard answer to these posts:

I only ask you all to do one thing. Ask yourself "would I do something that was going to hurt my business just because I felt like it?" The obvious answer is "No", which is precisely what I would expect of iboats if I was a rational person. I guess that assumes iboats is rational too, which I would suggest is obvious based on their success.

Why were the changes made?
Being entirely presumptive - the forums here are at least two things: 1) an opportunity to build some brand loyalty by providing an engaging community that is centered around the products they sell thus keeping their site/product lines in clear view, and 2) a fantastic way to drive search engine traffic to the their website.

Search Engine Optimization is getting to be a pretty wild game, and it's often kinda' surprising to me what is important to it. For iBoats I can only imagine these forums really help that out.

And frankly, for the use of the information I gain on this site ... I'm glad to let 'em do what's best for them.

This is vbulletin? Wow, they have really messed with the stock layout and not really in a good way.

Owning several different forums myself, the major reason you do big upgrades like this is due to security issues, all the different types of software that runs these types of systems run on .php software, as do many of the content management systems and blogs, the hackers are always targeting them, which gives them an in on all of the websites hosted on a server, I lease our servers from another company and they will shut down websites if you don't upgrade to the current version in a defined amount of time due to the security risks. Normally when I upgrade stuff, the visual aspect is the least of my worries, that can always be addressed after the software/security upgrade is done. So I would give it some time to get tweeked and taken care of, at least they were able to bring it up in a timely manner and didn't run into any major problems, which believe me, it happens quite often when upgrading stuff!

Thanks for the explanation. I knew there had to be a pretty good reason, due to the time and cost involved in this.

I don't know how iboats is setup on the back end but if its virtual you can always clone the VM and upgrade that in a controlled environment to see what issues you will run in to. Likewise if its a physical storage with NAS or SAN you can snap the data volumes/LUNS and present them to a test/qa box to see the effects of software change before they are applied. And of course if you are using a physical server with internal or DAS storage you are kinda screwed. You could always restore the DB on a test box in that case or use a P2V converter to make a vm image of your production server.
