After many decades of existance I should have this down, but......

Here is the question; A device, consuming 1500 watts. runs for 24 hours with an electricity cost of 8.2 cents per kilowatt hour.

What is the cost per day of running that device and how did you arrive at it?

1.5 x 8.2 x 24 = 295.2 cents

Ok, quick stab at it:

1500 watts x 24hrs/day = (1500)(24) = 30,000 watts/day & 30,000 watts/1000 = 30Kilowatts therefore....30 KiloWatts/day.
Now: 30 Kilowatts per day multiplied by 8.2 cents per kw hr = 30Kw/day x 8.2 cents/kwhr = 246 cents/day or $2.46/day.
....did this pretty quick, but that should be accurate.
Ok guys.....who's next to check the figures and/or correct if I'm wrong on this.:D;)

Hope this works

wattage x hours used ? 1000 x price per kWh= cost of electricity

Every hour you run the unit it costs 12.3 cents.

Kilo is not limited to the metric system. It is a prefix for 1,000 times the unit of measurement, be it meters, miles, bytes or bux.

BTW, 1.5kilowatts times 24 hours is not 30kilowatt hours, it is 36KW hours.

Re: Who's got the formula?

Thanks all. Maybe it will stick this time.

The $2.46 is a far cry from the $1 per day that the manufacturer claims. And I will venture to say that our 8.2 cents per kilowatt hour is a lot cheaper than a lot of you people pay?

At what cost per kW was that cost calculated? By law, US anyhow, the cost per kW must be declared on the cost label

We pay pretty much the same per kW here

Re: Who's got the formula?

is that one of those devices that are advertised to heat your home for " just pennies per day"? i laugh at those ad's......when they say pennies, its usually just 2000 pennies, which adds up to alot of $ in a month. ( clever marketing and i see it all the time with the ir heaters, and handcrafted cases made by menonite craftsmen......$400, but you get to heat your home for next to nothing , and get old school wood work cabnetry). with the deal i mention.....you get more bang for the buck by burning the cabinet in yer woodstove.

...thanks Corbin, I stand corrected. I overly complicated things for myself.
As for the metric thing....I always wonder about that south of the border. My generation deals in both metric and imperial references and I always wonder if the U.S is getting closer to doing the 'big shift' over or not.:)
All good

The manufacturer is probably factoring in a cycle percentage, not 100% operation... thermostat?? If this is one of those infrared heaters save yourself a bundle of $$ and get an oil filled radiator for about $40. All electric space heaters are 100% efficient regardless of purchase price.

The manufacturer probably didn't figure the unit running for 100% time. They probably figure that to heat the space specified it only needs to run 50 % or less of the time.

Yes but the cost label also takes into account the average run time in an average indoor location where the device would be used.

Down hear we are paying 12.57 cents per kw hour.
Which includes all of the other fees our bill such as minimum charge, local franchise fee, all taxes, fuel surcharges, delivery fee EVERYTHING.
