Yep seen that one posted on our fishing site about three different times now. A couple different storys going around about it. But this is the first time I have seen it associated with the other pic with the big guy eating the little guy. We have heard it is everything from a fake to a fish caught in Europe, and that it was some guys uncle.

Non the less it is a monster pike. One we would all love to be lucky enough to catch..

If they stocked trout in there like that then you guys should start throwing trout immitating swimbait. Hold on to your rod real tight because you tend to not grip the rod as hard when you reel slow.

Up here in Maine you can catch bass if you stay below the 45th parallel. The lake in my town is free of pike, so the smallies and pickerel are the dominant fish species. Ive landed tons of 4-5 pounder smallmouth out of that beloved lake.

This is precisely the reason there is not a huge bass population on my lake in the Adirondacks. Eagle Lake in Ticonderoga is a 420 acre lake. the state stocks it with trout every year but the past few years the guys who troll for trout have been catching fewer of them. Seems the trout are snacks for the pike! I have caught and released quite a few bass over the past 4 years I have fished there most of them below 3lbs. I have caught 4 LMB over 4 lbs and 1 that was just over 5 lbs. The pike population in the lake seems to be growing. I have been catching more pike mosltly babies and smaller ones over the past couple of years in early spring and fall. By no means do i have any proof but it would seem the pike are just eating everything. Could just be when and where I fish but I would think there should be more and larger bass in this lake.
I still love the place though.

as far as bass baits go i have had a lot of luck with the bass pro xps series of crankbaits. theyre pretty cheap (around 5 bucks) and the bass just hammer them. im from northern ny and its actually easier to catch pike than bass in most cases. and they get huge. its not uncommon to catch 15-18 pounders. the pike in that pic is just crazy. id bet it was caught in europe.

the smaller rivers here are dominated by smallies. big fat ones. i usually catch one around 5 every year. the sturgeon also use the smaller rivers as estuaries. when we bullhead fish one of us always pulls in a 4 or 5 foot sturgeon. sooo much fun!
