Re: Who drives your boat while you...

This is our second season with the boat. My wife didn't drive very much last year but this year I had her get plenty of time behind the wheel. Main reason for this is I wanted some time on the tube and kneeboard. The tube is easier but the kneeboard was a little harder for her to get the speed down. It took about 4 days, a little yelling and one fight before the ride on the kneeboard was good to me. The speed would go from 14mph to 25mph in the begining but she was able to learn to keep it between 17 and 19. Like said before everyone needs to learn and I am sure no one was a expert the first time they pulled someone.

The only real blonde moment she had was when I fell off. My wife thought it was more important to pick up the kneeboard before coming to get me. Straightened that out right away.

Give a little time and teach someone. Just take deep breathes and try not to yell. I lost one afternoon of fun because of that.

Good Luck

Re: Who drives your boat while you...

The first time my wife ever drove the boat was with me on skis. I told her, don't worry I won't get up the first time (I had not skied in 20 years), so of course I did. She had no idea what to do and just pulled me directly toward the center of a fairly large lake.

Now I give her the helm a least once every time we go out when we are just cruising, and she gives me a pull on the board every now and again. She is much more confident and I have no problems with her driving. She even gave took the ladies out skiing several days last year when we were renting a lake house. My only complaint is that when she sees other boats she will often return to the "take the boat into the fattest part of the lake" mode, where the water is typically the choppiest and the least fun to board on.

Another plus of having the wife learn to drive is it makes launching and retrieving about 10X easier. I back up the truck, she drives off. She comes back to pick me up when she see me at the courtesy dock. We the reverse the procedure at the end of the day.

I suppose my x-wife would enjoy driving while i was in the water... can you say "fish food"

with a little more experience, i'm confident my daughter is going to be good.

I can just see it now, off the coast of Florida, new way to fish for those 'big ones'. :D

I am of the notion that everyone on my vessel should have enough knowledge to bring it back to the dock in case I have a grabber or something.

Grabber: Slang for Heartattack (runs in the family).

That said...my wife don't drive the truck so long as I am conscious!

This coming from the wife's point of view...

My husband drives while pulling someone in a tube. I haven't driven enough to make me entirely comfortable with the tube thing yet. Haven't even trusted him enough to be IN the tube. Kids love it though.

I can drive perfectly competently, albeit somewhat cautiously. Neither my husband nor I are speed freaks, and 30 mph is about the limit for me...that being said, there's nothing like a designated driver who is competent and cautious (me) when the water gets unexpectedly choppy. He dozed while I was cruising at 20 in some pretty good chop, but it was actually very exhilarating for me. I finally understand my sister's love of the freedom she gets riding her Harley, lol. I just get a little nervous about shallow water. Thank goodness for GPS navigation!

I'm finally more comfortable drving the boat onto the trailer, although that took a bit of practice. Someday I'd like to be confident (and competent!) enough to take the boat out without him!

Well, my post must have been a jinx. Wife took the boat out yesterday for "ladies day" and brought this back. Found a huge concrete block or something in the middle of the river..... I can't complain because I done the same thing a few months ago.

I let my wife pull me on the tube. The worse the driver the more fun it is on a tube. When we wake board, I have my buddy pull me because my wife can't maintain a constant speed yet. She is hooked on bein the captain though so it's only a matter of time before she'll be the only driver I need.
