Working on a Mercury 35hp and I don't know what manual I need. The parts look up only show a parts manual.. The Serial number is 0A988740 and I believe its an 1985 year model but I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance for any help

To get either Parts or the Service Manual, you will need the Serial #. An 85 will have the ugly Brown Cowl Decals like this, same for 84. 1980 - 83 had basically the same Decal, but with Blue Stripes, in 86 it changed to sliver/gray for a few years

Contact a Mercury Dealer, give them the Serial # and ask them to order a Factory Service Manual.

Waiting on a call back from the closest dealer to me ( 1 hour 25 minutes ) since last Thursday he said he would have to do a little digging

Another option would be to contact Mercury Marine directly

I was simply saying what most of those 3rd party manuals are good for. Anyone who has serviced any of these Engines for any period of time, will not argue that fact

I have used 3rd party manuals.....sometimes that is all we (us diy'rs) have.....
I've had good success using them....I also understand there are mistakes.
So I'd never tell a stranger they're useless.....cause they aren't......
...opinions....
OEM service manuals are the desired go to.......OP's choice.....
