I have a 1987 225 Mercury Laser, B176658, cylinder bore 3.375, 2.4 Litre and I am looking to buy a V6 for parts. Which models and years have power heads and lower units that are compatible with mine?

Re: which powerheads and gear cases are interchangeable

all 2.0, 2.4 and 2.5 motors are all the same on outside. starters, ignition, etc. even gearcases, just have diff ratios.

all powerheads swap directly with each others mid sections. direct bolt up. just be sure if you switch engine sizes to swap out the exhaust tuner too, i.e, if you go for a 2.5 to a 2.0 swap the exhaust tuner too!!!!

the 2.4 and 2.5 are almost exactly the same. they use the same cranks but the 2.5 is a we bit larger bore, hence the move up to the 2.5 engine size.

cylinder heads swap from 2.4 to 2.5 and back, but not to the 2.0's, wont fit....

intake manifild and reeds are direct bolt ups too.

sooo, basically, if you have a 2.4, your best bet would be to get a 2.4 or a 2.5

the 2.5 are the most common , by far. you can get almost any aftermarket hi-performance parts you want for the 2.5L. i have seen 2.5's pushing in excess of 300hp with carbs!

hope this helps
