Hi. I am cleaning this carb from a 1975 2HP Johnson. I have a couple pictures of the old boss gasket on the high speed jet, but I don't know which gasket to use from this kit I purchased. Is it in there?
And, while we are talking here, would you use one fiber gasket as packing and then a nylon washer for each of the high and low speed packing?

Hmm.. I see that photos are a luxury I dont have presently. This is the kit Im referring to.

Wow.. Im having posting clickable link issues as well. Things are not going well here for me. Anyway. If you could copy/paste the link, that would work. I apologize.

Anyway, thanks for any assistance here.

All bets are off with a kit from Amazon.
You may or may not have what you need in the kit and what is in it may or may not be correct and 9 x out of 10 the gaskets will melt when they get fuel on them. Some people will asked me to use their supplied parts and if thats what they have I just don’t do it.

The bigger ring fits around the NOZZLE.-----Carburetors usually need just cleaning and couple of new gaskets.-----What is the issue with the 2 hp motor.

Thanks. I just acquired the 2HP and it’s running rough, and quite difficult to start. I took the carb apart, removed anny plastics annd gaskets and have soaked it over night. The packing was disintegrating as I gently pryed it out so I’m hoping a good clean and new gaskets are going to help the issue.

That bigger black gasket you point out for the nozzle, it has grooves on one side… does it matter which side is facing which direction? I don’t even understand what this gasket purposes is. Does it seal the fuel in the bowl from travelling up the side of the nozzle, as opposed to up through the nozzle where it’s meant to go?

Ya.. I felt like this was going to be sketchy.. but it’s so damn easy to sit on my couch with a beer and click away at what I think I need and have it come to my door tomorrow, lol. Hopefully this isn’t a live and learn.

Does spark jump a gap of at least 1/4" on a test device ?
Ripped it apart before checking that. I’ll put it together and check. I guess it was premature to assume a fuel issue. It started warm first pull, but I broke the pull start trying to get her going cold, along with my pride.

Ok.. I got it back together and it starts sweet now. But.. it runs like crap. And it won’t idle. Midrange is beautiful, but rough on full throttle and dies as I enter low throttle.

I should clean it again but I have to throw out my original question - I used the big black rubber gasket in the nozzle though it doesn’t match the gasket that came off. There are a couple extra fibre gaskets in the kit, should I sandwich the rubber gasket with those?

What would you guys do to identify which gasket you would use as the boss gasket? There is no way for me to identify.

Also.. I haven’t yet checked the spark, cause I’m a big dummy. But I will.

Also also.. what do you guys soak your carbs in? I can’t find any toxic chemicals in the parts stores.. everything is spray nine or wd40 products…

It DOES help, thanks. I think I’m using the correct one. I didn’t remove the (welch?) plug when I cleaned it, so that may be an issue. I just bough welder cleaning tips. I’ve used little pieces of wire, but I think these will be great.

don'T forget tha tiny side channel sending fuel to the top welch plug cavity pass the idle needle.

the side channel must be blasted clean with carb cleaner exiting on top of the carb idle section !

Ok but that’s behind the plug… not the iron shot. I don’t have iron shot replacement nor have I ever dealt with that.
