Which coil for 4.3

Replacing coil on my 4.3 and says to use external ressitor,i dont see one any where on the motor, is it the ignition amplifier? Can i use one with an internal resistor? Thanks

While troubleshooting an ignition problem I replaced the coil, and the new one said use external resistor. I was not sure either but it worked fine. Of course I saw the one listed for sale for the the 4.3 l was without external resistor so I too would also like to know what is up

I have the thunderbolt IV ignition.

"Use with external resistor" is written on the coil.

Engine serial number is what's needed.

The engine serial number is:OF294501.

As I said, the engine seemed to run fine with the new coil but the "external resistor" statement was not on the old coil (mercruiser serial # 392-805570-1)
