I am looking to replace my large, old, just quit working onboard charger with a new one, but am confused on which way to go. I want a 30 amp 3 bank charger. My choices seem to run from really large ones like the one I have, to really compact ones like you find on bass boats. Does anyone know why some are very large but only put out the same amperage as the compact ones. For example, I am looking at a Charles 3000 Series C-Charger compared to a Charles Dual-Pro 93-SE-A. The only difference I can see is the smaller Dual-Pro series also charges while underway from the alternator. I am confused. Help....

Re: Which Battery Charger

In my opinion, you do not want to re-invent the wiring and or charging system of your boat. From what you posted you have two different charging systems. One is shore power based and the other is engine based. Keep these two seperate. Find a replacement charger that closely matches what you had before. It will keep the wiring much simpler.
