Ok, I got the gearcase and lower unit rebuilt, thew some new plugs in the motor, and cleaned the carb. I got it in the water and I can start it. It sounds pretty good, but I have a blown head gasket. That's not what's getting me, I am only getting fuel if I continue to squeeze the primer. It will run for a minute and die unless i'm squeezing the primer. Fuel pump maybe? Also, It keeps popping out of my forward gear when i'm above mid throttle. It has a brand new clutch dog cradle, the dog looks good. I was wondering if it could be linkage. I keep watching the lever pop up into neutral when it goes out. What part should I look at? There is a shift lever rod spring in the lower unit, good this be my cause? Thanks for all suggestions.

I'd fix that head gasket before I went too far with anything else. Sounds like it could well be the pump. You can elevate the gas above the motor and fuel delivery becomes a gravity feed so you'll know if the pump is working or not. If your gear case is good it could be that you need adjustment on the shift rod (the coupling). Best of luck. Rick.

Ok thank you. I have a new head gasket on order, I'll look at the shift linkage and see if that hopefully fixes my problem.
