Re: Where to live in America?

Northern California always has needs for Occupational Health Specialists. Pay is generally higher than the rest of the US.
Best thing, you are never more than a few hours drive from any type of recreation you are into. Where else can you spend the morning skiing in the mountains and the afternoon at a nice sandy ocean beach. We have everything from coastal waters, high mountains, high desert, and everything in between.
Would definitly reccomend it here.

Re: Where to live in America?

The Seattle/Puget Sound area is a boaters paradise. Washington has the highest boat owners per capita of the nation. Lots of lakes and the sound.

Also Northern Idaho is a boaters paradise if you don't mind a cold winter.

Stay away from California, yes the state has "Everything" as tylerin said, but everything is drive to get to and expensive once you get there.

I lived in the Bay Area and it was a minimum of 2 hours to put the boat in fresh water, a minimum of $20.00 to launch the boat and park the truck, and GOD forbid you have to get gas on the dock and that was back in 1995. To go snow skiing it was a minimum of 4.5 hours to get there, and $50.00+ for a lift ticket (In the Lake Tahoe area) and then a 4.5 hour drive back, fighting traffic most of the way.

Just my experience though. :)

Craig

Doh! My head hurts  anyone know a good doctor ;)

Wow! you folks have certainly given me a lot to start researching.

Cold weather don't bother me none, I was born and raised in Scotland where even the sun is cold

Thanks for all the inspiration, I'm away to lie down and cure my headache with some purely medicinal alcohol :p

Ps: I reckon if I stays on iboats long enough I can learn the language before I emigrate :D

South and north carolina for sure and north alabama and tennessee need to be considered too. Weather, cost of living, population density and friendly people are big incentives.

Definitly Tennessee. All of our misquito's got blown up to NY (see the skeeters post) :)

I've lived in San Diego.. to expensive and many uptight people...

Olympia WA... damp and gray a lot..

Chicago IL... (i'll never do that again)

I enjoyed, North Dakota, Missouri, and TN.

TN has to be my favorite due to a combination of weather, entertainment, boating, and cost of living. I'm not near old enough for retirement, but if you are, TN has been rated one of the most cost efficient places to live due to cost of living and 0 state income tax.

Sequim, Washington.

Rains less than 15" annually, Access to the San Juan Islands, Hood Canal, Puget Sound, and the straits of Juan De Fuca.

A large population of retired people that need health care.

An hours drive or so from a beautiful temperate rain forest, several nice golf courses open year round, and housing prices, while a bit high, nothing like Seattle. Oh, and great crabbing, clamming, geoducking, and other shellfish generally, plus if you have kids, the best tide pools anywhere for exploring salt water critters.

You name it, Sequim has it! (Pronounced SKWIM)

Avoid the midwest, particularly Indiana. Lakes are OK, but much better in Michigan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOL! I take it you're not from here originally. :D

I would agrees with the others on the recommendation of the Carolinas, Alabama and Tenn. area. It would be a comedy show in itself to see you conversates with those peoples down there though :D

can't really argue that unfortunately

Although I love the cold weather, and I LOVE the northwoods....so i am happy

I have moved around and traveled to alot of this fine country. There are beautiful places everywhere. Some ugle one's too. California has it all and it has the population to match. Cost of living high. I would look at the Carolina's if I had to starts somewhere. Snow in the mountains and boating darn near year round. Cost of living reasonable, lots of golf, and I have found that the people there are some of the friendliest anywhere.

Good Luck.

BTW, Wisconsin isn't all that bad. Some guys like fat chicks.

Lots of money can be made in the Northeast corridor, From Eastern Pa, on up to Boston. Plenty of good lakes too. I would also have to agree on the Carolinas as a great place to live, My sister just moved into the Charlotte area and loves it.

I think you could check out San Antonio or Austin, Texas. They don't have Disneyland there, but worth looking into. Chief ;)

Yea, I like 'em too Pointer. Plenty of "Milwaukee Tumors" on the men too (beer guts) :)

My location of choice would be the Reno, NV area. My wife and I did our first anniversary there. Absolutely beautiful. Depending how the cards play out, we would like to retire there.

Re: Where to live in America?

Oh, and another thought, don't worry about speaking the US version of English....it's evolving....into spanish...the Sonora version...

Fact is most babies born in the states speak spanglish, right out of the womb. We even teach Spanish in our schools...to the Mexican Ileagals. There are even building code books published in "spanglish". In fact, again, it is easy to learn English here, just turn over any page you are reading...the other side is in english! At the stores, the advertising is bi-lingual...only in America. Iam not bashing Mexicans, (my kids are half Mexican)!
just the Goverments policy of immigration.
Heck, you can come in across the border, Won't cost you anything except the 'Coyote's fee.
If you have a turban, take it off first, so you won't be mistaken for the Taliban. Yes Northern Calif is great...looking better all the time....sl
