Situation here is changing quite rapidly, long story, but job etc seems to be going pear-shaped.

I've got family in America, New York, California, Seattle and a bunch of family/friends in Canada.

Okay, so I'm into boating big-style, ie as often as I can get out. I don't mind weather extremes, although LA and Florida look a bit grim at times.

Where would people suggest that I look at in America for a good place to live?

Re: Where to live in America?

Hi Stan, you raise a very good question. My wife and I have always pretty much lived in Ohio except for military duty. We were wanting to move to Florida, but with the turmoil of bad weather, we are now looking at Tennesse. We too love boating and that is one of the main priorities. The Tennesse river travels through many states, and into the Ohio river which then opens up many more waterways.

We are tired of road salt, high heating bills, short boating season, and cold weather.

Good luck, you have got a lot of research on your hands.

Thanks SS Mayfloat, I suspect I have. My family are completely divided over where I should try: California is favourite amongst most of them.

San Diego California. If you can afford to live there. Great weather all year. Lots of water, sports ect.

Thanks for the responses so far, keep them coming.

Hmm, San Diego? Good point: I had some friends spent 18 months in the base down there so I'll have a chat with them about the area and get the lowdown on the place, thanks again.

If you are into medicine there is no better place than Houston, TX.

Its not the greatest place to live, not a very pretty city, but there will ALWAYS be a demand for those in the medical field.

And the city is geting better, not worse.

The only problems are, 1)its hot and humid, 2)there isnt a lot of touristy things to do here.

Plenty of boating places here.

Ken

North or South Carolina, coastal or inland. Lots of boating opportunities, descent whether year round. Great (low) cost of living in most areas, excluding ocean front or actual lake side living. This area is screaming for Medical Professionals. Check out Charlotte NC, Greenville SC, and the Upstate or Golden Corner of SC. for starters. We have been boating in every month of the year, and we are generally fair weather boaters. Good luck in your quest.

Avoid the midwest, particularly Indiana. Lakes are OK, but much better in Michigan.

Arizona of course! The most beautiful state in the country. :D Year round boating and some of the most incredible lakes anywhere. The job market is smokin' hot in the Phoenix area. House hunting can be a bit of a challenge, but we're still cheaper than many hot spots around the country.

Stay the heck away from Wisconsin. Damn near highest taxes in several categories in the country. Jan and Feb brutally cold mostly. Spring and fall a crap shoot. Whole lotta fat women too.

Good Luck.

I've got at least a dozen reservoirs within 100 miles, year-round boating season except maybe a month or so frigid temps. And 98+ for a few weeks a year. Not nearly so humid as Houston, but we are a long ways from the nearest coastline. Look up Dallas and Fort Worth.

Don't come to Ca.it sucks. Boating all year round. Deep sea fishing,to Bassin in a few hours. Good mts. for snowskiing. Deserts for motorcycle riding. Pacific Flyway is one of the better waterfowl hunting. Sierra Mnt range for Rainbows, Browns, Brookies, and yes Golden trout.Great local kayaking. You can grow your own :)
Earthquakes are a bich. Housing is astronomicaly high though.South is pretty liberal and north is pretty conservative.
