Chalk up one more from Columbus. We'll be heading to the Lake Erie Islands this weekend.

I would think you would be okay on the big lake if you keep a keen eye on the nearshore marine forecast and an eye on the sky, but you know you and your boat's ability better than anyone!

Cheers

In the morning is usually the best time to head out on the big lake if you are interested...the afternoon winds come in almost every day around 1-2pm.

Have you checked out Round Lake yet? It's the smaller lake between Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan.

Enjoy the trip, hope you can hook into some nice fish up there too:)

When coming out of Round Lake you better keep to the left! We didn't, tried to go up on plane, hit bottom and spun the prop. It did run good enough to get us back to the cottage though. Had a new prop put on the next morning and all is fine.

There is a big red bouy, and I know Red, Right, Return, but from my days in the Navy that meant returning to port not returning to the lake. I was not the one driving the boat at the time, but there is a very good chance I would have done the same thing.

My wife and I went down to Marietta and checked the area out and the Best Western. The Muskingum River was like boating up a river of pure mud. The dock by the motel was very small. There were about five boats around 18 ft each tied up butt to butt. We checked the motel out and didn't stay. Only smoking rooms that were nasty. The parking lot was hardly big enough for cars not to say pulling in there with a boat trailer. Had to back my rig out into a busy highway to get the heck out of there. I certainly couldn't recommend it.

I can recommend Lake Monroe which is a little over 4 hr drive from Columbus. It's located about one hour south of Indianapolis outside/near Bloomington, Indiana. The lake is over 10,000 acres and is really nice. Has a large hotel overlooking one of it's marina's. My wife and I stayed there for about 4 days last August. We live a little south of Columbus. Good luck with your search and happy boating mate.

SSSSHHHHHHH!!!!! don't tell everyone. actually capt sunshine is correct. this is our home pond and it's a lot of fun and has something for everyone. the hotel at fourwinds resort is very accommodating, and the people on lake monroe are very friendly. there are several access areas as well.

I will also say Norris Lake, 4-41/2 hour drive from cincinnati, great clean lake that winds around like a big river. Takes days to see the whole lake. Many nice houses to rent on the lake with private docks. I go to Norris if I want to rent a house and bring my boat. I go to Cumberland if I want to rent a house boat.
