Where to get alternator for Mercruiser?

The 20+ year old original alternator on my ski boat with a Mercruiser 350 engine died and I want to order a new one. OEM part number is 862031. OEM part runs $350 or so, Amazon has one from Rareelectrical for $120 (and some cheaper ones), other online boat part dealers have them for $150 or so (no brand indicate). I know that it’s safest to go with OEM, but is there a quality product available for less? Thx

Identify your alternator. Is it a Delco or Mando? Because Mercruiser just bought the dang thing and marked it up

Your local starter/alternator shop can probably fix yours for under $50

Thx - the only identification is a plate that says Mercury Marine Part #862031, a bunch of specs, then Made in Korea.

Sadly no local shops near me…

You can get one from Amazon w/o issue, I would think. Make sure it is a marine alternator, as they are shielded from making sparks in your bilge, which is real important. I used to have my local auto parts shop order a marine alternator out of their Sierra Catalog, when I needed one for my mercruiser. Your's lasted a whole lot longer than mine ever did.

There are a ton of cheapo made in China mercruiser alternators on the market. They are not what you want. I made the mistake of buying cheap and a year later, it konked out on me. The bearing were completely worn out. You should go to your local repair shop and have them look at the old one. They should be able to either repair it or replace it with a quality product.

Closing this out - I took it to a local shop and they rebuilt it for $100. Totally shot - bearings and guts bad.
