Re: where to find laundry soap

Sour is sodium florislicate or something close to what I just typed. Dirt and soils have a low ph. Detergent has a high ph. The detergent kicks in and removes dirt. This leaves the clothes having a ph of around 10.2-10.8 in the drain of the detergent water. You could rinse them about three times and get the ph back to a nuetral or slightly lower but sour is cheaper. With the sour you just add it in the last rinse cycle and it will lower it to the correct level. If the PH is way too high or way too low it will cause most people to break out in a rash. I have to do monthly ph tests to make sure verything is in order. The medical dept also keeps in close touch if there is an outbreak of rashes. In thst case we do ph tests immediately to insure that all is right on our side. Having a nuetral or slightly lower than nuetral ph will also make the clothes last quite a bit longer. I hope that explained it, any more questions?

Most commercial laundries, hospitals, hotels, etc. use a sour product. Just a guess, but I suspect that commercial laundry detergent is high alkali; hence, the need for pH adjustment.

Re: where to find laundry soap

Just wear them into the shower and rub some soap on them then. It serves a dual purpose and saves tons of dollars!

Seriously, the cheap laundry soap in the large containers at Sams works great, if you don't get too dirty. My daughter is very sensative to most laundry soap. I need to buy Tide or Era free. I don't use the suggested amount, but pre-treat all stains with the soap. Tide works wonders on soap, and to me is worth the extra money. Even if I miss a stain like grass on the kids clothes the first washing, I pre-treat with Tide and they come clean.
My work uniforms don't get much soap, polyester cleans easy. Unless I get blood on them, but them I have the hospital launder them.
My every day clothes now, I can't use cheap soap on them. I get into too much grease and dirt in my shop for that.

A water softener will pay for itself in no time.

One more thing that saved me a lot of money, I got the family convinced to wear their jeans twice before laundry unless they are really dirty. Shirts, socks and undies can't do that. Towels we use twice or 3 times before laundry. As long as they get hung up between showers to dry good and air out.
