Where the #*$&!!! is my trim tab anode???

I just installed a new trim tab (mini skeg) anode on my 150 Mariner. After boating all weekend in the Bay and some in the Gulf, I was doing a washdown, and noticed the little skeg was broken off of the brand new anode on the av plate just behind the prop. Broken off flush with the convex part that fits into the plate. I am currently running a 14 1/4 X 21 SS Rapture prop. Is there any possibility the prop hit it? I couldn't find any prop damage, and never heard a clunk. I know the waters I was in very well, and there is no chance I grounded. Is it possible this was just a defective anode? There is plenty of clearance when I'm hand spinning the prop, is there ANY possibility there is that much flex in the SS Blade???

May have been a bad part,the ss prop shoul'nt flex to hit the tab.

The 21 should fit your lower unit without a problem; does on mine....about 3/4" clearance up and the same aft.<br /><br />I agree that it must have been defective or you hit a piece of floating debris or something and it may have been soft so that you didn't feel it.<br /><br />I didn't see any nicks in your prop.<br /><br />Mark

Well I just put another one on. Gonna stick her back in the water tomorrow. Hopefully the anode will be intact after a good run!!!

i fish in a bass club looking at some of the bass boats in the parking most of them dont even have a trim tab is it really necessary

An old fellow around here told me the bass boat guys take them off, because they arent needed. Not being a bass boat guy, I left mine on.

Okay, I don't know what the heck is going on. The trim tab anode is gone again. Sheared off in the same place in the last one. My output shaft doesn't move in and out, and the prop is plenty clear of the anode. I can't imagine I would have gotten 2 defective anodes.<br />

I trailer the boat. I run in saltwater, Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. I am very familiar with the channels around here, so I'm not bottoming out. This is a bit frustrating, My other anodes don't look unusually worn, so I really don't think it's electrical.

I don't think it would be rocks. The boat ramp is only 2 blocks from my house, paved all the way. I never get over 20MPH all the way to the ramp and back. Kind of blows my mind. Is it possible that Boater's World got a defective batch?

If the Tab is not OEM, I think it could be possible.

You might want to take both of them back to the store, and complain. Though both are unlikely, I think it's more unlikely that you are hitting something and shearing it off, than they are both from a bad batch.

It's not an OEM tab, and I am going to take them back to the store, and go to the Merc dealer and pay the extra for the OEM. I can tell when it is gone as my steering starts to pull more.

I have a 150 merc did the same thing.But I know what got mine deep water with tall submerged weeds.Didn't hear or feel a thing put the boat on the trailor it was gone.I didn't replace it I have a bass boat,doesn't affect it any at all.Is it possable your running through some sea weed or some thing.

I may give the torque tab a try kenny. The anode thing is frustrating. <br /><br />BMW there is lots of sea grass around here, but I don't think it's anything that would do anything to that anode.
