Place is in Indonesia, and is the obvious scam site formatting... If you want to buy thin air for $2,700, that is where you go

Looks like $4000 is the price, $4500 with power tilt. Sold out, but they are taking orders for 2022 model Mercurys.

They do have Suzuki short shaft model from $3500 to $4300 IN STOCK !

There have been and continue to be scam sites for outboards. They basically collect your money and have no actual product to sell. So, it is like @Scott Danforth says. . . too good to be true.

Lots of instances and discussion on the THT site, since they are mostly outboard/fishing boats.

Well then I'm glad I asked about them. Saw the website at work and didnt really have time to research. I will checkout onlineoutboards as rosco suggested. Any other places of legitimate businesses out there with good service/prices?
Thanks guys!

I have bought 3 motors in recent years from onlineoutboards.com. The price was better than I could get anywhere else and the service was awesome. They all came Fedex in about 3 days. I didn't check recently so I don't know what current availability is.

OK Thanks for the responses!
My friend who owns more boats that I ever will told me not to get a 25 hp motor for my 14ft Aerocraft aluminum boat. I had told him I wanted the electric trim/tilt as well bc of my shoulder issue. ( both rotator cuff surgeries).
He said dont get that either bc it will put too much pressure on the transom. The boat is an older one 1962 I think (TL-15), and it has the lapstrake sides which make it more rigid. The tag on the back says 40hp Max. Also the boat has been garage kept or at least under cover. The aluminum looks good with little or no apparent visual corrosion. My friend says 10hp or 7.5?
What do you guys/gals think?

Also I called my local retailer in Macon Ga. (40 min drive from me). They said they could get me what I want but that they are taking up to 24 weeks or more to get anything in. Their price was $4,057 +$50 document fee +$280 sales tax bringing total out the door to $4,387. Less prop with new Mercury's. so add $70. for 25hp short shaft, elec start. also can put $500 down pay rest when it comes in.

online outboards has a suzuki 25hp elect start, pwr tim/tilt in stock $4,295 +$300 tax $4,595.
opinions invited please

Your friend has seen the boat so his opinion trumps ours. Nevertheless, all things considered, I would think a 25 4-stroke on a boat rated for a 40 2-stroke would be ideal. Certainly, a 9.9 would be a dog. The caveat is that the transom condition and wood needs to be in good condition.

I personally would prefer the Merc, but its up to you whether you want to wait that long. A Suzy is a good motor, but I would not own one because there are no servicing dealers local to me.

I'm glad you looked at your local dealer. I did the same back in January and found that the local joint was cheaper for what I wanted than onlineoutboards.com.

I bought a 2021 20HP Merc with electric start and short shaft for a couple hundred dollars less than the online source. Mine came from a major national outdoor retailer that also deals in fishing boats and motors (you can guess).

I looked last week out of curiosity, and the price difference between the online source and the local source was still about the same.

My boat can take a 35 HP motor. But I liked the lighter weight of the smaller motor and Merc includes prop, fuel tank, and fuel line with their 20HP motors. That cost difference made better sense for my situation.

I really like my Merc. It pushes my 14' Lund loaded with two fisherman and gear at 22 mph. It's very quiet and very thrifty with fuel.

About lead times: When I ordered the motor (first week of January), they told me 14 weeks waiting time. They also said that they had no "firm" lead time as Mercury didn't give them one; they based the lead time on the length of time that their most recent delivery consumed. I got a call 8 weeks later that the motor was in, and I picked it up that day.

I removed the transom wood and will be replacing with new. Also extending it lower on the inside bc the orig looks like a 1x4. The outside back wood cant be extended it reaches down to the water line already

Any further opinions on the idea of a 25hp motor having a negative effect on the transom or using an electric trim/tilt? The boat does have a metal tag with the weight and hp max ratings (40hp/850lbs/4 persons).

Based on your pictures that does not look like a 40HP hull. My Sea Nymph looks comparable and the specs are quite similar. Except the HP rating for mine is 25. My personal experience is that anything over 18HP was overpowered.

Are you sure that your boat was originally fitted with a side console? That would increase the HP rating.

Personally, if it were my boat I would go with a 20HP Merc. It's lighter than the 25 and unless you're a speed daemon it should perform well. But then again, I imagine that a bunch of people will argue with that opinion.

I did find what looks like cable wheels for steering way up front under the covered bow. There are also small brackets mounted down both sides of the hull on the inside. I first thought nav light wiring, but it would be really in a spot where it would get damaged easily. Then I found old wires up under the railing. I didnt see any places where a side console was prev mounted no fastener holes anyway. Kind of tough to figure out. Not many clues as to what was original

I've got both a 1993, and a 1999 Starcraft SF14, both are short transoms with a 40hp rating. I run an older 35hp Johnson on the one, and a newer 9.9hp Mercury four stroke on the other. Both are open hull tiller type boats.

I just looked into repowering my one boat with a new motor after getting a sort of crazy offer for my 35hp two stroke, but found that if I sell my motor, the chances of finding a new one may be pretty slim. None were in stock anywhere. A tiller steer, shortshaft, Electric start, with tilt/trim seems to be hens teeth right now. A few dealers told me if I like my current motor, and it runs, stick with it because any they get in are are already sold for the foreseeable future.

well I did it! I ordered a new mercury 25 hp short shaft tiller steer with elec start manual trim/tilt. Its supposed to be a 2022 model, and I went with the platnum warranty for a total of 8 yrs full coverage. I cant expect it to arrive until almost christmas. Now I need to focus on getting a good deal on a new prop for it. The fishing store wanted over 150 bucks. any thoughts?

My SF14 was a 2009. It was the FLSS model, meaning it had a floor, live well and vinyl covered seats. The max Hp was 25. The side console version was 40.
