I have a 1977 Johnson 70 hp outboard 3 cylinder. I recently removed the carbs for a good cleani g and when I was finished I ended up with a spare spring, which I assume goes on the middle carb because the linkage runs off the middle carb. I've looked on the schematic and I can't even find the damn thing! Pictured below. Possibly related...I now have a backfire coming out the exhaust when I increase the rpms in gear. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.👍👍20210618_072255.jpg

This spring holds the CHOKE flappers OPEN at full throttle.------Keeps them from fluttering.
