Where does this hose go?

In the picture below, in the upper-righthand corner, there's a tube marked #30, with a tee. I'm putting this engine back together, and I can't figure out where this goes. It's a short tube, about two inches long, and seems to point off into space.

The tee is not a check-valve - it's just a simple tee.

Is it just a vent? And the open end should go no where?

Water pressure gauge possibly.

If you go to shop.evinrude.com, drill into the drawings for your engine, and see that the pictures are more complete, less grainy, and the full description of the part is there.
The #30 you refer to is called a "HOSE, tee to port balance tube". I would bet that it connects to your air silencer somehow.
I would use the Evinrude site first for more accurate info.
Sorry, I don't have the book for that 175.

EDIT:

Check out the page for "Carb and intake manifold" and note the part #39 called "Balance tube". It goes there somehow.

Re: Where does this hose go?

it goes to the recirculation system..... it may end up on the plastic pipe-tube that runs up the side of the manifold... there are several..i think ther emight be two small nipples on the bottom side of the crankcase and they run the small dia hose and it hooks into that tubing for the manifold....it basically sucks fumes exhaust ect back into the fuel delivery system at the manifold and reburns...( poor term i know) again.... they manual has it... i cant find my home manual, I have one at work... and I could post a picture of the routing on monday..... you should buy the manual.... best $40 youll spend

The short hose goes into the rubber grommet on the backside of the airbox.

Re: Where does this hose go?

Awesome - thanks so much for taking the time to post such a helpful reply!

I can also confirm that's where it goes. The information on the evinrude parts list is misleading, and the TEE isn't even listed on the hose routing diagram in the manual.

Anyway - I found an old picture I took that had it pointing this way, and there's a nice spot in the air silencer for it to fit into.

Re: Where does this hose go?

This short hose has a pretty small - maybe 1/16" - inner diameter if that helps.

hmmmm this may negate the possiblility it is the hose that dumps into the airbox

the hose that dumps into the airbox as posted on the picture from CAT, has at least a 1/8th" id......the hose that have a small id....like the one the OP just mentioned....all attach to the recirculating system....

but i think it is possible the OP, THINKS his hoses are the one in the EVINRUDE.com diagram....the ones in CATS picture IS the hoses from the EVINRUDE diagram!

everyone confuses yet? ha ha

pictures help

Re: Where does this hose go?

There are two hoses that go into the airbox on this engine. One is larger, like Bob mentioned, and goes from the port balance tube to the bottom of the air silencer. This is stated clearly in the manual. The short tube from the tee mentioned in the original post goes into the top of the air box. - This is verified by photos of original engines' hose layouts, but I haven't yet found a reference to it in the manual.

Thanks for that diagram Bob, it looks like OMC fixed the manual for the 95 model year. The OEM manual for my 94 doesn't show the upper main bearing with the TEE and connecting hose even though they are plumbed in on the motor.
