I have all Ambasadors (SP, 4600 series. I have been using them for years, I have rebuilt most of them. I know there are better smoother reels, but they are fine for me and I dont want to replace half dozen or so reals.

Re: What's your favorite baitcasting reels???

I LOVE my President!!!! I have literally beat all paint off of it, and it casts just as good today as it didn when I bought it. I have it on an ALLSTAR rod and it is by far the best combo in my boat. My second favorite is my Ambasador 4600CL3. It will sling a Rat-L-Trap out there too. Kenny, the onlt thing about the Pfluegar that I dont like, is the small gears inside are plastic, but it has been very durable.

Started with Abu years ago. Got into Shimano's later. A bantam and a Calcutta 151. Just got a Calcutta 201DC for Christmas. Absolutely amazing -- love it!

I got a Quantum Energy AS600 that I am in love with. Love that 6.2:1 gear ratio for ripping crankbaits and spinnerbaits.

I'd love to try some a those expensive shimano's but until then I really like my Diawa reels - used two "economy" models (graphite body) for over 20 years with zero maintenance, one just bit the dust. Got a new Procaster recently and it's a pleasure to use.

Anyone have a Lews Speed Spool. You dont see them to often but they are great little bait casters IMO.

DH, I just realized what reel you are talking about....I almost went that route, but chose 2 TE200GT's insted. I'm pretty hard on reels and figured I'd get more use out of 2 300.00 reels than 1 450.00.<br />I was using Quantum IR3's for customer/client use, and they worked quite well so I started using one myself on Stripers last spring and by mid-summer had the line-pawl wore out and the gears were all but destroyed.<br />I know the 201DC will hang tough...we'll see how the 200GT's handle a season of Wiper/Striper abuse.

I have 4 Ambassadeur6500's on my Salmon rigs.<br />I install those custom aftermarket teflon drag clutches in them and put those "hawg handle" cranks that Pro Bass shop sells on them.<br />It's in my blood if it's mechanical I'll tweak and customize it.

I looked at the GT's for a long time. I really like their looks. Neat deal. <br /><br />I stumbled into a good situation -- near Christmas, wifey wanted new furniture -- bingo! "sure you can have the r/r for Christmas!"<br /><br />Great deal for me. I get to sit on the new couch AND use the new r/r.

DH, keep us updated on the circuit board and how it's working...30,000 RPM during the peak speed of a cast.......must have a Turbo TXP in there too...

Re: What's your favorite baitcasting reels???

Naw....a Mazco.<br /><br />Seriously though -- when we were at the fish shack after Christmas I was using a 1/4 oz lure and casting as far as the other guys (spinning outfits) using 1/2 oz. Definately outcasting those using 3/8 oz stuff. <br /><br />And the wild thing is, you cast so easy the accuracy level is unbelievable. Helps find those snook under the bushes. Oh -- maybe why I was the only one to actually catch a snook on the trip!

Ambassaduers here.. 4600 and 6500... Both of em' near 20 years old.. <br /><br /> Now, they are'nt near the smoothest or farthest casting, but they'll still be around after most everything else has bit the dust....

all shimano either american or the japan versions. Got a curado, curado SF, calcutta, chronarch sf, sedona, and sahara spinning. Love them all and they are still top performers after many years. Whether you buy high or low always maintain them!
