Re: What's the cost?

My 26 foot Dusky with 225 hp usually burns about 20 gallons of fuel for the day at 3.75 per gallon = 75 bucks...plus oil another 5 bucks... Bait is 35 bucks a tote, about 125 lbs. of bait.... there is approximately 5/5gallons to a tote so I make some chum, freeze some bait and when there R no live mackerel around I use the herring bait...35 dollars worth of bait goes a long way...do not have to go far to catch stripers, can actually start to fish within 5 minutes from the dock.... a lot of times I anchor and fish moving to a dozen spots. When going bottom fishing for cod or haddock it cost a little more when going about 12-15 miles to fish and leave the motor running while jigging...... I do not shut the motor off 12 to 20 miles out. My charters always covered the cost with a good take home pay.

I don't fish much but I do enjoy being on my boat.
We went to Lake Powell in April. It's 550 miles from L A + a 200 Mile detour to see my Daughter & Son In-Law. Gas was a little over $4.00 @ 7.5 MPG pulling the boat, that's about $860. Went about 450 Miles total on the Lake from Wahweap to Bullfrog/Halls & side trips at about 2 1/2 MPG = $810. Plus Food & stuff. That's about $2000 for a 2 1/2 week trip that can't be duplicated by any tour boat company.
Oh, including a stop in Vegas on the way home for a good dinner out & a night in a real bed.

Re: What's the cost?

Depends on where and how far I'm going to determine which boat I take.

15' Wide Aluminum w/25HP Mercury 4-stroke - $55 total
- $15 gas for boat
- $10 gas for truck
- $10 snacks/drinks (drinks are just refilled water bottles)
- $20 bait

18' Sea Hunt w/90HP Johnson 2-stroke - $130 total
- $60 gas for boat
- $5 oil for boat
- $20 gas for truck
- $10 snacks/drinks
- $35 bait

Usually take my dad with me and he splits the costs, so typically no more than $65 per trip.

Re: What's the cost?

I was just talking to my next door neighbor about this yesterday. I figure I'm out $100 the moment the hitch hits the tongue. Then it's $200 more if fishing around marine area 11 islands. $500 more if fishing the north sound. And don't get me started on Columbia River Kings! It's no wonder I had to take on side work.

Wild Salmon at Safeway: $11.99/lb

My "Free" wild caught salmon: $299/lb

I'm new at this, so I figure the few fish I've caught work out to be about $5000/lb.

i'm amazed at how much it costs for everyone to get out. i troll around my place all day (about 8 hours) on a liter of gas. merc/tohatsu 3.5hp 4 stroke. total cost $1.20. if i trailer it and go somewhere it's a little more :)
