Catfish big as Volkswagons hanging out at Dams. We have discussed this to no end on another message board and given exageration and such we feel there is great potential to double the world record if someone ever catches the "truth"

there's a hydro power dam 'round here on the susquehana river.. divers are always afraid to go down an inspect the dam .. as there are many 6 to 7 foot catfish there to greet them

My grandfather, who lived in Missouri, always told me that catfish in his lake were measured in inches...between the eyes. Once he caught something that was so big, he said even if it was dead he could never have brought it up from the bottom with his 10# line. The darned fish towed him around the lake in his little boat for an hour before he finally cut the line. The record for the biggest catfish caught there was by a 9 year old boy, using a piece of lye soap. The catfish was bigger than the boy's father!

A co worker, Prof. Don Henry used to tell this to all his classes.<br /><br />There is a collosal flathead that lives in the river near me. Lives in an old sunken Corvair sedan. I'll bet that monster weighs over 100 lb!!<br /><br />I actually had him on a line once, but he swam into his Corvair and rolled up the window. <br /><br />I usually judge fish stories by how much effort the teller puts in to swearing that it is an absolutely, positively, no-bull true story "Or may lightening strike me down right here in my tracks". The more hype, the least truth.

when I dive in my lake "cheat lake" (I install mooring things and salvage wedding rings (sometimes the man is still there, kets, docks, outboards (how stubid do you have to be)I have sean huge CAT fish they eat all the sewage from the lake I always have three dive knives one on my tank one on my foot and one strapped to my arm just in case. I never sean a big one up close biggest seen 3 feet long. but it scares the hell out of you when you see this under water huge wake. there is something big in lakes...

Word is that in the pool below Cumberland Falls (KY), there are monstrous catfish. Supposedly they sent divers in to find a drowning victim once, but the divers came back up after only going about 1/2 way down... Said there were catfish in there 6-7' long, and they weren't going back in. Of course, it's all RUMOR!!

That fish is not a regular catfish, it's a Welsh Catfish. They are not native of western Europe, they were introduced by mistake. They are a terrible "disease" they will stand facing stream and eat anything that comes by. There is no predator that can reduce poplulation since it grows too fast even for Pike to be eaten young.<br />Local biologist and government are trying to stop spread, especially encouraging anglers to catch and destroy them, but apparently it's a loosing battle. Kinda of Snakehead fish deal here in the US.....
