What's the best way to tow my Seadoos with my Pontoon in the water?

Just curious to know if anyone else tows PWC behind their pontoons in the water and how you do it safely without rolling the PWC.

Is there some sort of floating rails I can get some information or photos on? Anyone have photos of their setup you'd be willing to share with me?

Thanks!

I have towed my Seadoo behind my boat quite a few times. I guess I am not sure what you mean by rolling over. I don't do it with any speed. I just have a fairly long rope and the length is determined where the doo rides in the wake of the boat. Not sure how fast you are talking but you will not be able to go very fast towing.

I wouldn't be going fast either but I want to see if there's a way to keep the Seadoos noses out of the water. My 3-D rolls [over] pretty easy, as I found out this past Summer.

If there's a lot of activity on the lake, I'm afraid it might create a bad situation for towing them behind me. I'm looking for a way to keep them relatively stable.

Set up a tow line so the ski is past the rooster tail from your motor.
If it rolls that easy, towing it at anything more than trolling speed may not be possible.

Thank you. That's why I'm trying to find out how others are towing theirs and if there's some kind of rig I can hook up to the pontoon to make it easier.

SeaDoos, as in 'more than one'???
I wouldn't even attempt towing more than one at a time. Waaaay too risky IMO.

Here's a picture of a 3 seater being towed by my 34' cruiser.
The harness is home-made but similar to the Towdster.

Thanks for the photo. That looks pretty efficient.

Yes, two. But I wonder if I can tow one behind the other instead of side by side, like I was thinking.

I thought it was a type-o....towing two, one behind the other is risky.
As soon as you stop...one bangs into the other then two bump into your toon..uh I mean stern!

Re: What's the best way to tow my Seadoos with my Pontoon in the water?

lol. Yep. I can see the rear one bumping the front one when you stop. Didn't think of that.:D

Anyway, just trying to get ideas. What I was thinking is that, because the pontoon won't be going very fast, we might be able to build 2 sets of removable rails at the rear of the boat that would be tilted in such a way as to keep the noses out of the water.

We want to be able to throw our camping gear on the pontoon, go to remote areas on the lake, and still be able to play on the Seadoos after we set the tents up.

We love the outdoors and spend a lot of time at Lake Mohave this summer camping and playing in the water. I'm just looking for a way to have the privacy we enjoy, explore new places, and have a more efficient way to zip up and down the lake when we want.

Understandable, I would love to have a toon, until I moved south I never knew how much fun they were.

You could tie each one to either side of the toons, just inside the roostertail, (see arks picture), the tail will keep them apart...stopping or going too slow will be an adventure, keeping them apart and not bumping into anything else.

Or making some rig >< to hold the ski to each toon.

Re: What's the best way to tow my Seadoos with my Pontoon in the water?

The pontoon is actually new for me. I bought it for a friend of mine from a friend of mine and never got paid for it. Essentially, I'm a pontoon owner by default.

It needs new carpet and furniture but it's on a good, sturdy trailer, has good pontoons and a newly reconditioned motor so I will be working through the winter to get my fixer-upper ready before summer gets here and I figured, what the heck, let's check into a way to tow the Seadoos while we're already working on it.

So if I sound like a newbie, I am. :p

Never thought of it, but could you get a piece of 2" PVC pipe 6 or 8 ft. long, cut a section out where the buckle for a motorcycle tiedown would be when attached to the tie down eye one the back of each toon. Just cut out a third of the circumference and long enough for the buckle to fit inside the pipe. Attach the ends to the toon and the jetski and pull it up snug so there's no slack or very little. I think it would have a tendency to pull up on the jetski and it would ride smoothly in the wake of each toon. You still would have to come to a stop slowly, else the skis would try to turn on way or the other when momentum would make it push against the toon. Don't know if this would work well, just throwing it out there.

I've never towed a Seadoo or towed with a pontoom boat, but have towed boats for miles in the ocean and rivers. When it came time to tow in tight or busy waters, or the dock, I always tied midship. A couple fenders, tie her tight. Don't know if it works for but has always worked for me. Manuvering is easy.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I'm with Sasto. Tie those rascals mid-ship and see how it works. As long as you have them tight enough to the fenders to prevent bumping and you don't get too speedy I think it will be okay. Welcome to iboats and to the awesome chillaxin' world of pontoons. Before you know it you won't even be a newbie. Oh yeah, in case you haven't figured it out already there's a wealth of restoration info on here as well. A keyword search will result in hits in both the Resto section and the Pontoon section. Dig it up when the time comes. You'll be glad you did. Welcome aboard and don't be a stranger.

They do make a tow thing for the bikes, It is about 10 or 12ft long an it like a whip, lol, Very stong an you can hook it to the handle bars so it will keep the bikes from rolling over an it is stong enough that it keeps it from hitting ya toon or what ever ya towing it with when you go to stop on water, It is neet an I use to have one when I had bikes, Can't rember where I got it cause it was about 8 years ago an can't member the name they called it,,

Linda,

I have a 32ft tracker and use the Toadsters...they work great.. I pull a jet ski and then a boat behind it...go to their webiste...they are pricey but worth it.. I can pull them all at full throttle(17 mph) and then slow down without them hitting the boat...

Could you try hooking both jet ski's together (with a fender between them of course). This way, one would hold up the other from rolling. Just a thought as I'm no engineer but it would seem doable this way.

PS Hope to see you on Mohave this summer Noshy, we're there every chance we get - My favorite Place to be!

i didn't see it mentioned above...

don't forget to install a tow valve in your pwc if you are planning on going above 5mph or so. otherwise water can get forced back up into the motor.

Re: What's the best way to tow my Seadoos with my Pontoon in the water?

i thought the pick up for the water cooling came off of the pump..... how the heck would that allow enough pressure to push water into the engine or cooling system being towed? i dont intend to sound argumenative, and may be about to learn something....but at this point it doesnt make sense to me. sean
