What have you done to improve your boat? What will you do eventually. And what is your no holds barred "I can afford anything" list?
I have done the maintenance stuff including bellows, shift cable, plugs yearly, cap, wires, rotor, fuel filter each year. Replaced a balky fuel level sender, did the fuel lines. After those maintenance items were up to date I happily needed a taller prop, so I got an aluminum one since I wasn't sure I had picked the right pitch.
Wet sanded & polished up the exterior. Installed a new marine stereo to replace a dead one. My kids plug in their Ipods and make me listen to music I don't like. But sometimes I can choose, I am captain you know! Replaced upper input yoke & seal on my drive. While the drive was off I sanded it and took out the marks on the skeg. Repainted the drive. A local auto mechanic I know just happened to have a new distributor sensor sitting in his toolbox unclaimed for ten years. He gave it to me, awesome. I bought him a 30 pack, he deserved it.
I have an extending flip down boarding ladder on order. The OE single step is getting too tough for our aging bones. Also, we have the excuse of my wife had shoulder surgery and can't climb the single step. Boy, time marches on, I at one point could pull myself into my dad's Glastron, without a ladder, after waterskiing til my legs ached.
I HAVE to do my interior over, should have done it this past winter.
So I'd like a stainless prop, trim tabs, maybe a power amp for the sound system. Someday I'm going to that marine salvage yard down the road and get a trim indicator gauge to match the ones I have.
And I am thinking I'd like trailer brakes cause my trailer and boat just barely meet the 3000 lb no brake rule. I put high performance rotors onto my truck cause normal rotors would heat warp a little even when I tried to baby the brakes.
Pie in the sky stuff... I'd like to try an Alpha SS lower unit, I would also like to see what a Land & Sea Sternjack would do. The Sternjack pushes the drive back a few inches into less turbulent water, the SS is shorter. Each is supposed to improve speed. I'd like to put modern heads on my motor and a roller lifter & cam setup for more rpms and power.
I suppose if I spent that kind of money I might be able to find a better boat though...Maybe I could rescue a tired Donzi Classic or Hornet.
Our docks only allow 21' boats, so the Hornet is the biggest old school Donzi that would fit. I envy Donzi 22 Classics and Century Coronados.
I know it's crazy, but it's fun to imagine the possibilities.
