Re: What's my engine really worth???

I was one of the idiots they told that to. Ken, you have an e-mail in your box, give me a call.

For someone like me, buying a used outboard is a harrowing experience. I have had guys tell me that the motor runs etc, only to get there and watch them spraying starter fluid into it in order to get it going....needless to say, didn't buy it. Being uneducated on the rebuilding process (knowing only what I read here and hear from dealers) is the only information I get. When I first contacted Blackbird, they informed me that the difference between there rebuilds and a rebuild from another dealer is that I could only expect 100 hours from a dealer, and I would get more out of their's. When questioned how many more hours I would get out of one of their motors, I was quoted about 5 years total.....Now, in 5 years, I may not put 100 hours on my motor, or I may put 2,000 on it. I replied and never rec'd a response after that.

Hope to hear from you soon walleyehead.

I'd be pretty darn pissed about that Blackbird crap. Of course, why would they say anything else? If they said it would run forever, then that would be saying "why take it to them when it will be just as good if you do it yourself". Would want to lose business. Screw 'em....Glad you got something for it at least. Good luck with the new motor..

Walleyhed, I wouldn't pay much for an outboard over Ebay. Like I read somewhere on these posts, an outboard, not seen in person is worth what a new one costs minus the price of a complete rebuild.

Sorry you didn't get much for it, but I think over 2 grand isn't bad. But that's just me.

Re: What's my engine really worth???

Well, guys.....the engine sold after auction (It never met my reserve) I'm not going to say what I got but I'm happy with the amount, and the gentleman I'm dealing with is the kind of person that would deserve to be treated well.
I offered coverage of a certain amount on my engine, and am totally confident in this engine, and added a few "extras" to help as well.
Anyway, it's good to know there are some good folk left out there, and what better way is there than to stand behind your work.
I'm content with the price and he's getting one hell of an engine.
Thanks all for your input,
Wally

If both parties are happy, what more can ya ask for?

Nothing against you dude, but for someone to shuck over thousands on an engine they've only seen pictures of is quite brave.

Again, nothing against you dude. Don't take it as an insult.

No insult, I understand your position as well, and as I said, I offered to stand behind this engine totally for a period of time, and am very confident in my work, so I know he will be happy.....
