What year please help?

We have a 115hp Mercury outboard with s/n 5726039 I hope you can help find the year of motor. I have looked everywhere for it.

1980 and 81 are the same production start numbers, but your number is closer to 82 so it must be a 81

We have only had our boat & motor for a over 1 month. Now it's needs work. thanks for your help!!
