What year is this motor

I have a Evinrude Model # E140 TRLGIN - would like to know what year this motor is and what the compressions ratings should be on the 4 cylinders.<br />On the motor is says Evinrude 140 V4 Sport.<br /><br />Thanks<br />christinekenny

If that model number is really E140TRLCIN it is a 1981, Christine.<br /><br />Compression should be over 100 psi measured with a screw in guage, warmed up engine, throttles open, 5 or more revolutions.<br /><br />That is not the important number, however. The important number is the range measured over the 4 cylinders. That spread should not exceed 15% of the average.<br /><br />Good luck, and welcome to iboats.
