Evinrude 6 hp fisherman Serial #6602B C480773.I just acquired it.

I think the bottom end might need some work and possible water pump. After I fired it up in a tank I noticed some seepage of oil running down the foot from a small hole at the front where it connects to the main motor housing when it came out of the water. The water wasn't shooting out of the hole in the back like it should either . The motor ran really well though. Since I know nothing about outboards I guess I'll have to have a service person look at it.

Re: What year is this motor?

I have already found out it's a 1966. The oil coming out of the weep hole is likely not a problem because the motor was moved around and left on it's side for a year and a half so is likely draining the old stuff now that I had it running and changed the gear oil. I think I might get away with a new water pump impeller and that's all it will need! I paid $550 for the motor, 2 fuel tanks a 14 foot aluminum ( boat that is older. Wood transom needs replacing ) oars and life jacket. Was that a fair deal?.

The oil you see seeping is just unburned oil from the motor. It's very common.

$550 including a 14' tinny is a good deal in my neck of the woods.

Check the oil in the lower unit and make sure the oil is free from water, before you plan on rebuilding it. When you change the oil, make sure you use new washers on the plugs.
