what year is this motor?

i have a johnson 20 with some damage on the serial number tag. the readable numbers as follows , the first two are unreadable but the rest are 22 01787 <br />can anyone tell me the year of my engine

Hey rolla j<br /><br />We would need the model number to verify the year. Try looking on the engine block for a small silver welsh plug about the size of a quarter for more numbers. Then post those if you find them. A picture may help if you cannot find anything....<br /><br />Might look closer and see if it might be this:<br /><br />FD-22 01787 = a 1968 model

i located the a small silver plug, but then again the previous owner spray painted the entire engine silver, regardless i found some numbers near a small plug about the size of a quarter<br />the numbers are as follows 364781<br />i also found other numbers on the block are 30716<br />on the carborator i found these numbers they are two sets of three numbers they look like this <br /> 376<br /> 972<br />if anybody can help out,then clue me in<br />thanks for the info rick

Since the only model number with a 22 in it is 1968, I think that Admiral rickdb1boat has kind of nailed that for as far as the information you gave can take you. <br /><br />Why don't you go to the BRP parts catalog and see if you can match up some of the part numbers and pictures with what you have: BRP PARTS DIAGRAMS

hello again my fellow seamen,<br />I have another outboard with no number tag<br />i have found the silver plug that admiral rick spoke about on this one the numbers are as follows G3231145<br />hopefully you men can help me out,what year is this one?<br />its a 2-stroke,4 cyl. VRO V4
