What year is my motor?

I am unable to figure out the year of my 40 HP Merc. No stickers under to cowl or ID plate on the transom bracket. It's a 4 cylinder, 2 stroke with an oil tank inside the cowl.

See if there is a welsh plug on top of the block with the stamped serial number. Often located on the front port side.

An almost close way is to see if a manufacture date is stamped on the starter.

Or it's beside the HIN on the toon crossmember. :faint: LOL

Yeah, the questions are mounting regarding my new-to-me 'toon. Just hauled it out yesterday so will be looking to work on it between now and splashing again in the Spring.

You could tear it apart first, so you know the correct parts look like, gaskets, seals,everything else.

No luck on the powerhead itself, but "11 08 93" is printed on the starter. So my working assumption is that it is a '93 or '94.

That sounds good since the toon is a 1994. MaxRules has a chart of model years by serial number, but it works both ways. 1994 has both 2 and 4 cylinder motors, so both are linked below. Parts are found by using SN's for Mercs, so a SN range is needed.
