We've just decided to get out of competition motorsports and go boating. I had no idea there would be so many styles and models of boats!

I've spend time reading through the generous postings on this forum, and thought some of you kind people would give me some suggestions.

Here's my situation as of now.

Budget: around $25,000.

Type of boating: A little of everything. I live in the Pacific Northwest so will be boating in the many rivers and lakes in the area. I have 2 children, and one of them already wake boards quite well, so it needs to be able to tow alright.

From my research so far, I think I want a open bow, V-Drive boat about 21-24' in length. I don't need a new boat, but it should be less than 4-5 years old with EFI if possible.

The Malibu SunScape line looks VERY nice, but out of my budget, even used.

That's about all I think I know.

What do YOU recommend?

You need to evaluate possible weekend use amongst things like draft of vessel and the intended slipway.Breakback trailers are an option to keep your vehicle out of the water if the slipway has a shallow angle and the draft deep. Cabin? Cuddy? Open? Your in a country where boating is so cheap so the choice is vast.
I know what I'd do-buy one of each.

And tow vehicle. Make sure your current vehicle will pull it, and get a transmission cooler installed if not already so equipped.
Mako had some unbeatable hulls until lately. If I had that budget and desire, I would find a pristine 80's vintage hull in the 22ft range, and power it with twin Yammie 200's new. I would put the majority into the powerplants ,in other words.

If I were going to tow a wakeboarder, I would stick with inboard/v drive/ possibly sterndrive. At least a 305. That young one won't care much now, but when he gets really good, he is going to want something that will throw a wake. Before you know it you will be putting in a ballist system, or just a bunch of weight in the back, because he wants to jump higher. Should be able to get a 5 year old mastercraft for around 25, maybe 27. EFI will probably only be on a comp ski boat that old. If you go with a sterndrive, you will have to get newer, but the options will be greater within that budget. Good Luck, let us know what you decide.
