1995 johnson 200v6 looper recently had a problem with my engine charging system during the visual check I noticed the sensor coil on the stator was toast this is the coil with the orange / orange black wire on it after replacing the old stator with a new one the engine runs eratic I have to use the advance throttle position to make it run but it's not running on all cylinders as if it were being retarded
question what would short the sensor coil like that.
Reg/rectifier
Stator or pack

Greg,

I'm afraid that we are not talking the same language here.

The charging coils output wires to the rectifier/regulator are yellow.

The Ignition coils output are orange, orange/black.

If I understand correctly, you installed a new stator because of a problem with the old one, however this has not corrected the problem you are having with the way your motor runs.

You may still have a problem with the ignition module that the orange wires plug into but BEFORE YOU BUY, test the spark output from your coils.

If you do not have spark from the coils on that side then you need a DVA Meter to test the stator, test the trigger, and test for any output from that module.

Always remember there is NO RETURN ON ELECTRICAL PARTS!!!!!!

Test, test, and test again before you buy.

You are on the right track, a bad module may have caused the stator coil to overload and die, prove it, then replace only what is needed.

Charlie you may be correct I was told it was a sensor coil and the two with the brown & brown yellow pairs were ignition input to pack but anyway the engine was running fine no miss anything the problem was i had no charging and the regulator seemed fine as far as resistance test the stator looked toasted on that coil only a single coil on the stator facing front of engine with orange /org blk wires after replacing stator the engine just wouldn't run with out being advance. At first I thought the left & right banks were reversed but i hook them up in relation to how it sits in the pack everything on port side to port ,everything on starboard side to starboard
