We only keep about a fifth of the fish we catch and once we've got enough to have a family feed we put away the rods and go water skiing instead. The others (undersize, protected or not a favoured flavour with the boys, eg leatherjacket) I return with as little damage as possible. I also kill mosquitos, flies and cockroaches around the house but leave the majority of spiders alone as they help with the aforementioned lil critters. The biggest problem we have here in the Sydney area is feral cats... they eat all the native marsupial mice, native birds etc so if I had a gun I'd certainly shoot any feral I saw, but I haven't a gun so I can't!
