I come from a line of males with a unique first and last name combination that often leaves people smiling when they first hear it.

Today I worked with a salesman who's name is Roger Datt. As I was introducing him to members onboard a vessel this morning, not one person could hold back the smile after I said his name.

I went to school with kids from the D*ck family (rhymes with mick). There were 3 kids, Paul (no problem there, except he spent time in jail), Anita, and Harry. Harry pulled a knife on me once and later stole a school bus ... All before his 13th birthday.

Re: What were your parents thinking?

There are a lot of parents out there that need a swift kick in the arse for what they name their kids....or the ridiculous spellings of their kid's names.

Name your pet something cute, funny etc.....don't subject your children to a lifetime of ridicule.

Yes I know but some have fun with it like Peter Johnson a GYN in Toledo, Ohio with an office on rt 51, Angela Gumm office in Columbus, Ohio, or my favorite Richard Tapper a proctoligest in Toledo. Just sayin.

Some of the names are funny....but not for the people who have those dumb names. I have a couple friends who simply have odd spellings to their names. They hate it. They are sick and tired of always having to spell their names or pronounce their names because of the odd spelling.

i.e. one of my friends names is Henre(typically spelled HENRY). People think it's french(pronounced "on-ree")

lol, there could be a whole thread on these names. We have what we call our 'famous clients' who have famous names.. George Bailey, Ken Moore, Steve Young, among others.

I went to school with Crystal Clear, Sandy Wood (renamed Sandy Does :D), and Constance Cummings. A doctor in our town is Whabba Whabba.

Others that come to mind? **** Trickle (seriously...what were they thinking?), Peter Grabber, Isador Wood.

Worked with guy for 5 years who was in the marines....his name was Richard Brent Head. He went by 'Brent'. I would have never known his whole name if I hadn't had to hand out pay checks one day. I had to ask him how many fights he got in at school and if the drill instructors had a field day with him and his name.

He was a good sport about my question.....he said there was a fight as school everyday and the DI's gave him unmitigated grief everyday moment he was at boot camp. Then he smiled.

The first time my parents heard my name (Luke Coop) over an intercom my mom turned to my dad and said "what have we done?" Every time someone is kind enough to point out the fact that it rhymes I just smile and concur.

Met a couple of kids way back when who's father was really into his cars and bikes. The son's name was Harley Davidson and the sister was Honda Lee.

Also knew a paramedic by the name of Elvis Pressly.
