Re: What was your best fishing day?

I really think the best day fishing is the next one. Whatever I catch, whatever I do, wherever I go.

Headed out now to fish past dark. Any day above ground is a good day. This is the best day of my life! :D

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift.

Been fishin 50+ years and can't say I've had my best day yet! A few very memorable ones but I would guess the "Best One" is yet to come. When I can get my wife hooked into her 1st Northern might come close, Musky would be even better! If I could only get her to quit usin worms.

Closest to it was a few years ago. Had wife, 2 brothers, sister-in-law and a nephew on a salmon charter on Lake Michagan. The girls 1st time on the Big lake. Had a great time and everyone caught fish.

Best wasn't yesterday. While scoping out some uncharted waters unfamiluar to us in the river I located a shoal area.....to late. Outgoing tide , getting dark, even seatow can't reach me. We spent the night on the boat. By 9AM it was safe to motor myself off the oyster beds.

I have today!

Too many to list but here are a couple:

#1 I was in my mid twenties fishing on Mousam Lake, Maine. I was fishing in hubbards cove for a particular largemouth that was hiding out under a stump. None of my lures did anything to tempt this wise old fish. I needed live bait. I went back to the camp and found a medium sized frog, went back to the cove and hooked that frog onto a treble hook just behind the legs. I plopped that guy right across the roots of the stump and lured that big guy right in. He fought me left and right, grinding the monofilament against the rough bottom of my aluminum boat. It was the biggest Largemouth Bass on Mousam Lake that I never caught. He is still out there, waiting. . .

#2 A friends bachelor party fishing for stripers in Boston Harbor. I caught two; one 42" and one 46". Nice fight, nice fish.

This old pix was taken 26 Sep 66, 2 days before I got drafted and entered the Army.
The bigger of the bass took 2nd place for the bass derby in my hometown that sat on the edge of the San Pablo Bay near SF.
Sorry for the quality, but it's old like me and it's been laminated and I carried it with me in my wallet for 6 years that I served with the Army so it's beat up a bit.

Re: What was your best fishing day?

I've had many good times fishing and hope to have many more. One time that stands out was shark fishing 25 miles off Portland ME. Hooked up with a 800# Mako That jumped clear out the water off my stern and was at least 8' long (the estimate is 100#/foot for Makos). Turns out that after about 5 minutes of having fun with me he got loose. He didn't take the 7# bluefish I had drifting instead hit the piano wire leader and left 2 crimp marks 16" apart! MY buddy was trying to start the engine and find the fighting belt at the same time. Its funny looking back now but at the time I thought we were in deep trouble.
