what kind/type of sealant to use for the upper portion of the lower unit?

I suggest that before you continue with more posts that you read the section for new users, etc.

Posts are very vague and with no information as to what type and/or model of motor.

I just love comments like these....it just makes me appreciate this site all the more...if you posted something, why not post something helpful. This is not a specific model type engine question...I haven't dropped a lower unit before, sounds like you haven't either or you would know what I am talking about. Good day sir.

I've got quite a few years experience in this o/b business and your question didn't make any sense at all to me. And yes , I've dropped quite a few L/U's.

I use general purpose white silicone sealant on my lower unit and it does the job

+3 regarding the original question. It's Friday night and I just figured the OP might have been dippin' in the sauce before posting..made no sense to me.

Sealant....that which comes from a tube and is used where the seal is at the water pump housing...show's it in the service manual but doesn't say what type/kind to use...C'mon guys!

I believe the confusion results from your asking about a sealant for the lower unit to the exhaust housing..of at least that's how I read it. Looks like Adhesive M for the wear plate seal...and just a litttle of that. OMC Gasket Sealing Compound for the threads on the water pump housing screws.Seems like I saw a chart either in the Top Sceret Files or FAQ section listing equivalents for Adhesive M.
