ok so either one of these motors will fit in it correct? i found a mercruiser 470 in my area do you think that would fit or be too much horse for this boat?

The 470 is not what you want. That's not even an upgrade from the Ford 2.3L
Those engines have many issues. Open deck design of the block, charging system from an OB the usually gets changed to alternator because the parts are NLA, the cam seal leaks antifreeze into the oil.
As an example, I hightlighted the 470 threads in the Mercruiser forum yesterday evening. Half the thread were 470 issues.

the only engine I found listed for a 1990 Sunbird 175 was the 3.0/OMC cobra combination.

as Don and many stated, do not look at the 470 - you cant even polish that turd to make it a shiney turd.

if you really want to dump a lot of money into the boat, then look for a 3.0 liter and mercruiser outdrive. however by the time you get the boat splashed, you will have spent enough money to buy a 19' SeaRay with a 5.0 V8 that you can put on the water today.
