Is supply finally catching up or on par with demand or what? I don't even remember when was the last time I saw $2.50/gal of gasoline.

Re: What the heck is going on

I can. In fact I can remember 1951.

I was 16 and had a brand spanking new driver's license, a 1936 Ford and a pretty smart new girlfriend.

There were about 5 miles between her house and the local malt shop, called The Jewel Box. We would leave her house at a very slow creep and pick up every "deposit" bottle we saw along the roadside. Long before we got to The Jewel Box we had enough bottles to buy a half tank of gas, at $.18/gal, a couple of chocolate sodas and 2 tickets to the Sunrise theater where we would snuggle in the back row 'til near curfew.

Ah, sweet memories. :) Oh, yes, $.18 gas was part of it all.

It must have been several years ago but right now in Muncie, IN it stands @ around $2.50. I can remember when I started driving, it was $.89/gal. I had this big gas guzzling hoopty and for 15-20 bucks I could drive for at least a week. Funny how you remember good memories better then bad ones.

I worked as a gas pump jockey in 1970 & 1971 at a supertest, during the gas war's,gas was 18.9 cents a gallon, this run around 1968 to I think 1974and there was no such thing as self serve, for that price you got your windsheild washed ,your tires checked, and the fluids under the hood checked, and you never got out of your car!!!ciggerettes were 35 cents a pak, milk-55 cents a half gallon,in the vending machine..and I got a $1.00 an hour before taxes,I worked 80 hours aweek, churches chicken was 50 cents for 2 pieces of chicken and a roll, with 2 cents tax..and on and on.. NOW I feel old as he**.
sorry to get carried away..

Re: What the heck is going on

I had just read where speculators are selling a considerable amount of .oil stored in U.S tanks.

With the rising price of crude, many oil experts, thought this oil would have been saved until much later.

Maybe it's making hay while the sun shines ;-)

We'll see.

Re: What the heck is going on

Lowest gas price around town is $2.45 . And I'm sure that many are not aware of this, NJ has NO self serve. One of only 2 states in the country (Oregon being the other I believe). You may think its nuts but we have the lowest avg gas price in the country and its awesome to slide your credit card out the crack in your window when its 20 degrees outside:)

It is weird the price is coming down being that I heard on the radio crude hit an alltime his las week with little fanfare. Supposedly the slow hurrican season and all the refineries back on line running full out is helping. Who knows.

Or maybe, just maybe Exxon Mobil realized that record profit margins should be reduced and passed back to the consumer and all other refiners agreed...............Naaaaah.

Enjoy it while it lasts, it's going to get worse before it's gets better.....if it ever gets better (personally, I don't think so). I'm paying a $1.05/litre here in B.C.
Note: if memory serves me correct: 3.8litres/U.S gallon.
Luckily my wifes fuel is free (company gas card) and mine (for the better part) is a write-off. Regardless, we are waiting 'still' for our price adjustment.
Check out what they are paying in Europe for fuel.......ouchh!!

Everytime the price increases, the world's economies show they can handle the increases.

The only way the prices will drop is if a significant cut in demand comes about, irregardless of supply.

Re: What the heck is going on

Last week I paid 2.60 per gallon and yesterday I paid 2.52 at the same gas station. I go about ten miles out of town to get my gas. In town they get 2.80 It seems that where I live the 8 gas stations get together to keep the price the same, a monopoly.

I think we have about the highest in the US., $3.279 for reg. in Crescent City, Ca.. The lowest I can remember was in Ks. during the gas wars in the early 60's. I remember Ms. Hudson ( Hudson Oil ) on radio saying that she owned over 500 gas stations. She said if she made a dollar a day from each one that she had a pretty good income and that if Chevron wanted a war, to bring it on.

In 1968,I could buy over 3 gallons of 100 octane, see a movie and go to the local drive in with my girl for 5 bucks.....gas was less than 30 cents a gallon for high test

It worked!!! Pay over 3 bucks a gallon for awhile, now everyone thinks 2.50 is cheap. Always glad to see the price of fuel going down, but even 2.50 still puts the squeeze on the 'ol wallet when the Silverado is thirsty. It gets much better mileage than the Ram did though.

Internal Combustion is a passing fad!

Internal Combustion is a passing fad!

Every time the price of petroleum products go up, I throw a few more logs in the boiler and shake my head. As the cost of gas and diesel go up there are fewer boats on the lakes and rivers for me to say hello to, a few less vessels to dodge and a little more space at the ramps.

Can I interest any others in External Combustion?:D

Yea, I always get mine at the FlyingJ truck stop.
Always .10 or more cheaper than the other folks.
