I just bought my first boat and only had it in the water a few times. The warmest the water has been is 53deg. and my boat will only get up to about 130-140deg. A friend of mine said with that cold of water it won't get up to temp but I thought it probably should. Also is there a easy way to check the accuracy of a temp guage?? use an infared one on the exhaust manifolds???

Thanks guys

150 -168 Sounds about right...Nothing Under 135 and Nothing Over 180

Should 53deg. water make it run that cold or should the thermostat close far enough to make it get up to temp??

Thanks guys

That cold of water will make it idle a little cooler, but under load when on plane it should come up to normal temp, usually between 160 and 175 degrees

Ok then here's a stupid question. What do I do next then??? Check thermostat I assume. But I don't know exactly where that is. I've only worked on Jap cars and never really on V6's let alone marine ones. On the front of the motor is the water pump then that hose goes out and up to a block in which 3 hoses come out.( on the top front of the motor) is this where the termostat is or am I way off??? Thanks guys.

Ayuh,......

The T-Stat sits in the front of the Intake Manifold,.... In the T-Stat housing....

Just like every other V- motor Chevy has built......

Have a Look in Here,.....
