I’m about to go look at a new trailer for my supersport. The old one is up for sale on clist. A dealer has a 1200lb yachtclub trailer with bunks(preferred) for $899. Is 1200lb axle enough or do i need A 1500lb axle trailer?

i read here somewhere that the boat alone minus outboard is 700-750? Call it 800 lbs dry. Add 250 for outboard, 100 for 2 batteries, and 50 for gas and im at 1200 even... am i pushing it or is this ok ? Or should i look for a 1500lb model?

THANKS!

Personally I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a trailer that I have any concern over it being not enough for my boat. The 2500 Lb axle trailers are out there but may have a rotten glass boat on them. I found a heavy duty galvanized trailer with an older glass boat on it and a great 1995 115 Merc for 1500 bucks. You just have to pay like 70 bucks to take the boat to the dump.

Here it is while I was working on it after welding on a swing tongue hinge.

Trust me, i’ve been looking... and i’ve done it before. So far, nothing nice like yours.

this is for sale for $500 but it has rollers and that wierd swinging roller rear end. I want bunks. Rollers beat up aluminum boat bottoms. So if i replaced the rollers with bunks, how do i make that rear end stationary. Don’t wanna weld on galvanization.
i’ll be another 5-600 in it for parts when done. I’d rather buy a new trailer purpose specific to what i need.

That trailer is nothing but 25 bucks in scrap metal, take a hard pass.

Seriously you need to look for a trailer with a similar sized boat still on it and then dump the cruddy boat.

Thank you for trying. I’m looking for galvanized. Sick and tired of rusty trailers.

You could put some brackets on the crossmembers of that galvanized trailer and install bunks. You need bolster brackets, pivot brackets, and U-bolts similar to the pic below. They are not expensive. I agree with waterman on the trailer weight capacity - personally I wouldn't want to have to worry about my trailer being undersized. It depends on your comfort level though. I would not be surprised if your boat is over 1200 lb loaded. Your cooler of beer is 50 lbs alone :joyous:

I hear that, it's exactly why I went with the galvanized too, a lifetime trailer and then some without the headache of chipped paint..

Assuming you are talking about a SS16, go for a 1500 lb trailer.
You need to match the trailer to the weight of the boat, both too light and too heavy are bad.

Being that I'm in MN, and lots of folks here prefer rollers, as do I, I'd look for a good roller trailer, but that's me.
I'd also pass on the one you posted, as I don't favor that design.
