I like a version of "the carolina rig" . I put a slip weight on and tie on a swivel and then about 5 feet of leder and then the hook. Lets the bait float up from the bottom. Great for sharks.bottom feeders fresh or salt water.

Re: What?s Your Favorite Style?

I have two favorites, Joseph.

For peaceful contemplation I favor fly and popping bug casting for bass and bluegills from a canoe on a still, lilypad covered southern pond. . . in May or June when the dogwood are blooming in the pineywoods . . .at dawn and dusk. . .ahhhhhh

OH! excuse me. Got a little lost in reverie there. :)

For raw adventure it would be casting bucktail spinners for musky on Lake Of The Woods, Ont. in late June on a rainy, blustery day. "Take no prisoners!" means catch and release on less adrenalin saturated days. :)

But mostly I favor "styles" tailored to the location, the species available and the company, if any.

Thanks for asking. I have reached that age when dreams and fantasies are replaced by fond memories. It is good to have such wonderful memories. :)

No point writing it all ...JB wrote it for me ... LOL Wish we could be fishing partners .. cheers

Definitely flippin and pitchin jigs, especially sight fishing. You see them, they see you... lets dance.
Second choice topwater in the early morning.

Re: What?s Your Favorite Style?

The majority of our fishing is ocean trolling with downriggers for salmon. I like to use spoons when I can and use bait (herring or anchovy) when necessary. I try not to use flashers on the line but are needed with anchovy.

We also drift and bottom jig with heavy lead lures for rockfish, ling cod, and halibut which I enjoy as you are holding the rod when the fish strike. Nothing like the surging pull of a big halibut!

But what I really love is flyfishing, especially with a dry fly. Like JB I have fond memories of flat calm mornings/evenings on the lake. It really gets my adrenalin going when you cast a dry fly ahead of a rising trout, hoping to entice it with your offering.

Its whatever style or pattern the particular fish you are after is bitting on at the time. No style points if they are not biting on it :) Now, my favorite style for pure adeneline factor is top-water.

Texas rigged 7.5" Culprit plastic worm on an offset hook with a 1/4 in bullet weight and a little bit of spray-on attractant added. Favorite colors: grape shad or fire and ice (blue/red speckled).

It is weedless and can be thrown near any kind of cover without a snag if rigged properly. If you can see 'em, hit 'em in the head with it and they'll swallow the whole dang thing.

3" blue gill on a 3/0 hook with a 3 oz weight, yes lowly catfishing, can't be beat in my book.
Alot of people think(wrongly) that catfish are nasty bottom feeders which they aren't.
Bass, blue gill ect will hit almost anything that gets close enough to hit but a cat is alot harder to catch, they have tastebuds head to tale so they know what your bait is gonna taste like before they even eat it,and boy when they do get it hang on!
A big bass is 8-10 pounds and those are pretty rare but the average cat I catch is 11-12 with a big ones going 20 or better.
I will pitch a lure around between holes and get some bass, the smallies around here are pretty thick but nothing beats a pissed off cat pulling drag.

Re: What?s Your Favorite Style?

My favorite is finesse fishing, soft jigs are my favorite. Nothing beats the feeling of fishing some deep structure with a jig and you feel that tap, then you know the game is on. I also enjoy top water . Nothing like working a spook across a shallow point and then ((WHAMMO)), the lure is inhaled.
My father and I are big fans of the Zara Spook, pup, jr.. etc.. nothing beats landing a 5 pound lg mouth off top water at 6am.... greatest thing ever!!
