Afaik the only time merc used a counter rotated alpha was for a twin sterndrive setup unless for testing or race performance. Certainly close to zero chance a single counter rotated sterdrive package was ever marketed, but the 80's and 90's had some ideas......

There's no reason to suspect someone in the past 30+ years of your boat's existence hasn't replaced the original drive, but is it replaced? Or origInal?

What rotation prop is on the drive now? Right hand (clockwise for standard rotation in fwd gear looking fwd) or left hand (counter clockwise for reverse rotation in fwd gear looking fwd)

Keep in mind, all factory produced mercuiser sterndrive (mcm) engInes are standard (LH) rotation engines

Righthand rotation is the most common, and therefore more Prop choices.

You can buy a Bravo 3 and have both

No, at least not at this point regarding provided info

It's best you post a serial number and pictures of your current drive. Best way to get proper help

It was meant as a Joke, but with a few other parts, it is doable

Curious as to your logic, joking aside alpha/bravo don't jive especially considering OP provided info regarding 1989 vintage

My point is many people (including trolls) post here. Most often initial posters have a legitimate concern and irl wouldn't conceive jokes from strangers

You can also consult your boat's manual or contact the manufacturer to confirm which rotation you need.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... Not to pick on you, But,.....
Boats rarely if ever come with a manual, 'n wouldn't tell you anything about it's drive, nor motor,.....
You'd need a manual for the drive, 'n another for the motor,....

'n as noted above, 99.9999% of the Alpha 1s have been right-handed drives,.....

Again,.... Welcome Aboard,..... :)

All I/O engines are standard rotation left hand when seen from the flywheel
To clear up Bondo, the prop turns to the right not the engine
The gear ratio should be 1.84-1
