What reason caused the motor stalled

My friend has a mercruiser boat and it stalled and be pulled last summer. What reason caused the stall?

Mercruiser makes motors/drives and not boats

So which one of the many many many types of mercruiser is this. what is the situation that preceeded the stall. is it fuel? is it spark? is it compression?

we would all be guessing

My guess is that it ran out of gas. . .

. . . and the reason I say that is the last time my Mercruiser stalled, it had run out of gas.

Last time my mercruiser stalled a wire had corroded at the fuel pump relay.

last time my motor stalled, I buried the outdrive in the muck so deep it took me 3 hours to clean out the cooling system after being towed home.
