What percentage of value of motor do you replace? How much to spend on parts motor?

I have a theory as to why your breaking your part....just not sure it applies to this motor.

When your working on it when it's off, to get it to go to full throttle you have to be in forward. Now if you don't return it to idle and you shift it back into nutruel it can bind up the linkage. Has to do with the nutruel locater arm.

Did you do that maybe?
This is very possible! And I would guess more likely than not what happened. The motor wouldn’t allow me to turn the handle for the throttle at all in neutral before. It would only work in forward and reverse. I put my foot on the prop when I shifted it back to neutral and it seems to have freed up the throttle to be able to turn idle down in neutral now. I also messed with that shift locker bar and something between the two freed it up

Why not get into an electric outboard.-----Just need to know how to push a button.-------The EV world is upon us.------But I read an article that EV's may be banned on some ferries in Europe.----Perhaps the tunnels in the mountains will be next.-----These things are an extreme fire hazard.

The major highway I take to work has been shut down twice in the past month.

Both incidences involved tractor trailer fires. Both fires where limited to a small portion of the trailer.

The fire last week burned a 2 ft. wide section of the trailer thru both sides and the roof leaving nothing but the bed in the burnt area. The truck two weeks earlier also had severe but limited burning of the trailer

Nothing said on the news but suspect battery fires based on the location and heavy damage confined to relatively small areas

There isn't really much of a baseline in valuing an old motor. Parts value is easier to pin down, so it's a good idea to know those costs (rebuilding the magneto, for example) when out shopping. Additionally, your labor costs (hourly costs) should be considered largely irrelevant unless you run a business rather than a hobby.

much like the Ford PINTO burning up from crushed fuel tanks years ago
damaging a high amperage battery seems pretty similar to a mini Chernobyl reaction under the car. Damaged cells generate heat hot enough to damage surrounding cells and on and on....and pouring water to extinguish a fire isn't going to help.

I have zero desire for an electric outboard. You can’t beat the smell and sound of a 2 stroke motor. I’m 100% to my evinrude at this point and just ready to get it in the water!

When your working on it while off, doing say throttle linkage adjustments, always take the throttle back down before shifting it back to nutruel. Shouldn't jam up anymore.
