it "looks" ta be early high performance bass mid.. pre '89.
tha term "mod-vp" is used loosely with description of high performance side of merc.. hi perf. stuff can be an assortment of different motors and mids....

tha "single ram" mid was standard till 'bout 83.. then tha three ram became tha standard production mid.. tha single ram remained with hi perf. stuff.. its stronger and has full range with any rpm/load where tha three ram has limited "trim" travel....

no.. its justa production down housing with no liner and those holes drilled for an "open" sorta exhaust.. little quieter than tha hi perf offshore down housing... clamp and trim is same as hi perf "offshore"..

i saw your post on S&F so you have one complete mid and one that is missing one piece of a two piece adapter plate.. is that right?.. you can.. they all will interchange but there a few tricks involved.. tha one piece has different size threaded holes for tiller bolts is just one of 'em.. depending on which tiller arm used it can have a different height shoulder also.. then ya have tha different coolin like faz mentioned.. it boils down to whoever makes it a complete mid, ready for a power head, needs ta know what they are doin'................

if ya want to try and do this and have some mechanical knowledge we can probably get ya thru it... i can email ya a few things that identify parts and things..
tha main thing with doin' what ya want is this.. you can put tha one piece on tha can with tha three ram trim but you will also need to drill tha tiller arm (either ona press or ina lathe, they hafta be straight/true) tha two 7/16 holes to 1/2 inch where it attaches to tha adapter plate.. if you do this we can get ya thru tha coolin' stuff later.. its not that hard ta do..... justa a few other pieces ta change/add....
