I would like to make some bows for my mooring cover. Right now I have a tube that keeps it from pooling water but its not venting like I would like it too. I need to create a tunnel from the wind shield back so the back is open and can allow for air to move through the boat but rain can't get in. I have used wooden bows in the past with great success but never made them myself. I ripped down some doug fir i had laying around. I attempted to slip them in but they were too stiff and one snapped. I am soaking the remaining slats to see if they will flex easier when soaked. What kind of wood should I use to make some support bows?

Gee, the kind of wood used to make longbows. Listed as Elm, Hickory, Ash Oak and maple. The bows may be bought in marine stores in fiberglass or wood, as well.

Never use wood! Been there, done that. Aluminum boat cover bows cost almost the same and won't last 20 years, they'll last forever. They don't warp, pick up moisture, and don't give slivers.
