What is triggering the carbamoxide detector?

I have a carbamoxide / smoke alarm in my cuddy of my Wellcraft Eclipse. The boat is sitting on a trailer, covered with a cockpit cover and hasn't run in three days. The cuddy door is open.

We used the boat, put it on the trailer and towed it home. Unpacked it, and let it dry for several hours before covering it. I have not sprayed anything inside of it. It sits for a couple of days and then the alarm goes off.

Other info...

The boat has three batteries in the very back and the detector is in the very front? Trickle Charger on the batteries.

It has a portapotie with blue liquid in the holding tank?

The gas tank (60 gallons) is 1/2 full, but vented outside of the cover.

There is no definite order of anything in the boat.

The boat sits in my driveway ( no cars running around it to give off gasses)

Any ideas....

Some will go off to alert that the batteries need changed, I know the ones in my house do. I would swap the batteries and see what you get.

Could be a number of things. Detectors are pretty much a sensor. sensitivity, heat, vibration there is a list of things that can make these go into the alarm state. I've seen them go off with womens purfume. There is another reason, the detector could be faulty.

just ventilate before you take a nap in there.

How old is the detector? They have a finite life before they need to be replaced. Not the battery- the detector itself.

Battery-powered or plug-in CO alarms can be purchased for between $35 and $80. Buy one that meets the latest Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard 2034-1998. These provide a greater margin of safety and fewer false alarms than older detectors. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation. Also note the product's life expectancy so you can replace it when the time comes.

CO comes from your exhaust check that it cold be fatal start with a new detected Don't stay in a closed boat if that goes off while running check warranty on detectors

Close the cuddy door and see if they won't turn off. The batteries might be gassing and the detectors are picking that up. Maybe just get some air movement in there and you will be good to go.

Hi EFitzp - welcome to iboats - threads more than 90 days old shouldn't be revived - that's why the red warning line comes on. The questions were answered some years ago. If you are interested in this topic, or have questions, start a new thread. Enjoy reading and posting!
