What is this?

This is probably going to be a no-brainer for most everyone who views this post, but I have to ask. What is this and what does it do? It has a full fluid line on it, but is bone dry. It appears to be some sort of a sump or reservoir for the power steering, but want to know for sure.

The seals were leaking on my trim cylinders, so I changed the seals out. When I got everything back together and bled the system, the pump gave up the ghost from trying to pump mostly water for who knows how long.

That is the pump for your Bennet Trim Tab system, the lower part is a res for power steering fluid that is used for the trim tabs.
has nothing to do with the trim rams on the outdrive or steering.
