What is this part? Off my 1964 water pump

When pulling my water pump i noticed this inside my water pump housing. Looks like some kind of spring like O-ring. Not sure where it goes or if i need to replace something.

I needed to replace the grommet as well. I'm having a hard time getting it to seat properly. Any tips? The new one i ordered off this site doesn't look like the old one.

I'm not familiar with JonnyRudes, but the looks like the spring from a seal. Probably the driveshaft seal in the upper pump housing.

It the spring off drive shaft seal under water pump base....

Remove the cap off the pump housing and you will see the seal that the spring fell out of. Seal is part number 308073. Grommet is part number 310372. Dealer items, I don't believe iboats has them.

Thanks guys. Any tips for getting the lower unit back on? The new grommet on the water pump is hard to fit over the water line

Put some marine grease on it, Also grease the drive shaft splines on the sides.
