What is this in my fuel line

What is this in thr fuel line from the low pressure lift pump to the engine. I can't find it on the parts diagram. I'm gave having trouble with shutoff at idle unless I pump the ball. Changed the low pressure lift pump and the water seperate filter. But still doing it. If this is an onljne filter it's 17 years old and never been changed. If it's a check valve then maybe it's OK as is. If it needs to be changed it looks lkke the manifold will have to come off to get to it...

How about from the mechanical fuel pump to the VST?

So if I was to replace this with a piece of fuel line without the filter what size fuel line would I need?

Why would you want to remove the filter?

I would suppose that you have the old hose in question. Who better than you to determine the size of the hose?

I have a 10 micron with water seperator that I've added which is much easier to replace. Also there is another filter just before the lift pump. Also, other threads note that this Inline filter was removed by yamaha on later models.
